2024 Children's Book Week® resources

CBCA’s key highlight national event of the year is Children’s Book Week®. This year the official week is from Saturday, 17 August – Friday, 23 August.

Many schools, libraries and community organisations work their celebration of children’s books in and around other competing activities making the date work best for them. The idea that our weeklong book party can extend throughout the weeks and months beyond August is music to our ears.

So whatever time of the year you plan to celebrate Children’s Book Week®, please feel free to use our authorised promotional imagery and help us spread the word that “Reading is Magic”.

Children’s Book Week® turns 80 in 2025?

Our feature artist for the year, Jess McGeachin, has brilliantly captured this adventurous spirit in his artwork, which features a whimsical map filled with imaginary characters. Jess’s illustration invites young readers to embark on fantastical journeys, inspiring them to travel through the worlds that books open up. As an award-winning Australian picture book illustrator, Jess’s work encourages children to imagine, explore, and create their own adventures.

2025 is also a milestone year for us as we celebrate 80 years of Children’s Book Week®! For eight decades, CBCA has been dedicated to inspiring young minds to journey through the countless worlds that books offer. Jess’s imaginative artwork reflects this mission perfectly, encouraging children to set off on adventures through time, lands, and imagination. We look forward to continuing this mission for the next 80 years and beyond!
