The publisher says...

Spend a day with Australia’s most vibrant and unique feathered friends.

Full of splashing shorebirds, clattering cockatoos, parading penguins and greedy galahs, Busy Beaks is the perfect introduction to birds of all shapes and sizes.

The author says...

I live in Melbourne and my local parks are home to many bird species. I love seeing galahs digging up grass and roots, with their faces covered in dirt. I'm always on the lookout for a camouflaged tawny frogmouth, shy rosella or tiny pardalote.

I created Busy Beaks to share my love of Australian birds. The observational text of Busy Beaks is a bit like taking a walk and discovering new or unusual things about the birds you see.

I am so honoured that Busy Beaks is shortlisted for the CBCA Early Childhood category. I hope Busy Beaks will encourage more young people to fall in love with Australian birds and find enjoyment in the amazing wildlife that is all around us.

The CBCA judges say...

Delightful illustrations that are bold, vibrant, and captivatingly accurate depict twenty-five Australian birds in this engaging book for young readers. The excellent endpaper design depicts a range of different eggs which readers may enjoy matching to the featured birds. The simple text allows the story to flow, with the 'Facts & Feathers’ section at the end providing more detail for further discussion. Also included is the scientific name of each bird. This book is a joyous celebration of Australian birds providing age-appropriate information.
